A parent says, “I want to give my kids a real Christmas.” What do you think that parent means? Perhaps they are thinking of trimming a freshly cut tree or finding the perfect presents or spending the holidays with extended family. Perhaps they are thinking about all those things. “Then it will be a real Christmas!” Certainly, all those are wonderful things. However, none of them are what makes Christmas real. The sad truth is Christmas is the most beloved holiday of so many, yet so few know what Christmas is really about.

If you want a real Christmas, then you need to observe Advent. Advent is Latin for “coming.” In the season of Advent, Christians observe the connection between the first time the Son of God came into our world as the Savior and the second time he will come as the Judge. Advent prepares our minds and hearts, so that we might soon celebrate a real Christmas.

Sundays in Bible Class

The Book of II Peter

We are looking forward to a new adult Sunday morning class on the short book of II Peter, beginning on September 8. As we studied I Peter last year, we heard Peter encourage us to be faithful as we suffer for our faith in this world. In that book, however, most of the suffering and persecution was coming from outside the church.

In II Peter, we learn of evil influences that are in the church, which leads Peter to encourage us to daily put our faith into practice, taking our stand against false teaching, with the Last Day growing ever closer.

Wednesdays in Bible Class

The Book of Mark

On Wednesday, September 11, at 6:30pm, we will begin an in-depth study of the gospel of Mark. The shortest of the four gospels, Mark is full of action, as the inspired author takes us from one account of Jesus' life to the next.

If you've never joined one of our Bible classes before, this would be a great one for you because the best place to begin Bible study is with the gospel. Invite a friend along, too. This class is for everyone, and we pray that you'll join us.
