Our Story

Our Members

We're a local West Des Moines Lutheran church congregation, but our members come from all over Iowa! We have members joining us from Ankeny, Ames, Boone, Des Moines, Johnston, Clive, Grimes, Urbandale, Waukee, even as far away as Missouri! Our worship style is reverent and relaxed, uplifting, with predominately traditional piano and organ music. We focus on authentic Bible teaching, support for spiritual growth, and attention to your family's needs.

All have fallen away from God's perfect design due to sin, and we too are not perfect. We like to think of our church congregation not as a place for the righteous and holy, but instead a hospital for all of us sinners who need God's encouraging Word to nourish us for spiritual strength in this broken world.

WELS and ELS Lutheran Fellowship

Beautiful Savior is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and in fellowship with the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS).

The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), established in 1850, is a Biblically-conservative church body with a passion for children and outreach. With more than 1,200 congregations and 400,000 church members, the WELS is the third largest Lutheran church in the U.S. The WELS' passion for children and outreach has given it a strong history in education and missions. The church body's congregations support 370 elementary schools, 313 early education programs and 23 high schools, as well as more than 100 missionaries and more than 200 national workers sharing the gospel worldwide.

The Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) is an American Lutheran church body of 130 congregations in full fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

Beautiful Savior is also a partner with our sister WELS congregation, Lincoln Heights Lutheran Church, on the south side of Des Moines.
