Child/Teen Education

Sunday School

Classes are conducted for children ages 3 through 8th grade.  We begin with a group devotion and music.  Then students break into classes by age to hear a Bible story.   The students then do activities or crafts related to their story.

Sunday School is held at 10:15am, following our worship and fellowship.  Our Sunday School year begins the Sunday following Labor Day and continues through the Sunday prior to Memorial Day weekend.

Teen Confirmation

Children in 6th through 8th grades attend an afternoon class once a week during the school year.   During this class, they review in depth the chief teachings of Luther's Small Catechism.   It is this instruction that provides the scriptural information needed to be able to examine themselves (1 Corinthians 11:28) and then the opportunity to make a public profession of faith and unity with other believers (1 Corinthians 10:17; 1 Corinthians 11:26).

The Bible of course does not speak of the rite of confirmation or the practice of public examination. It speaks of training children in God’s word (Psalm 78:1-8; Proverbs 22:6; 2 Timothy 3:14-16), confessing Jesus Christ as Savior (Matthew 10:32), examining ourselves before receiving the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:28) and partaking of the Lord’s Supper often (1 Corinthians 11:25). Established in Christian freedom, confirmation—the rite and the formal course of instruction that precedes it—addresses these important areas.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer our congregation offers a Family Vacation Bible School.   It is held in the evening so the entire family can attend.   The children learn Bible stories, do activities and crafts, and sing songs.

Cradle Roll

Each child who becomes a member of our congregation is placed on our Cradle Roll.   The families receive Christian parenting information at the time of the baby's arrival and periodically until age four.   When the child reaches age 3, the parents are encouraged to enroll him/her in Sunday School
